USAID SEGAR is seeking a fixed-term staff member for the position of Conservation Enterprise Specialist (CES). This position aims to be part of the Private Sector Engagement team.

USAID’s SEGAR Activity seeks to advance Indonesia’s own development goals of balancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use with inclusive economic and livelihood development. USAID SEGAR contributes to the 2020 – 2025 USAID Indonesia Country Development Cooperation Strategy, Development Objective 3: Environmental Sustainability Improved, and Intermediate Result 1, Natural Resource Management Improved.
To achieve the overall goal, USAID SEGAR will achieve the following two objectives:
- Strengthened inclusive environmental governance in targeted subnational jurisdictions that advances biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, and sustainable land use.
- Increased implementation of environmental and social sustainability goals within private sector natural resource commodity production supply chains that reduces threats to biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions from land use.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- The Community Enterprise Specialist will develop activities that support smallholders and/or smallholder groups to comply with regulations, environmental and social standards (i.e., registered/certified in STDB, ISPO/RSPO, or other platforms)
- Support and facilitate the development of district action plans and/or guidelines for priority commodities to be pushed towards sustainability (i.e., Rencana Aksi Daerah Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan/RAD KSB, etc)
- Develop collaboration with related institutions at the national and regional levels to support the community enterprise enabling environment (i.e., with related ministries, ISPO and RSPO Secretariat, etc.)
- Design and implement conservation enterprise analyses, toolkits, guides, and other resources.
- Working closely, provide support and direction to the USAID SEGAR consortium partners to engage with community business entities and potential stakeholders in the site areas to meet the project targets.
- Support Private Sector Engagement Leads to produce quarterly reports, publications, and presentations of high-quality project achievements on a regular basis through briefing papers, policy papers, technical reports, and presentations, and provide data to support it.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of working experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, social science, natural resource management, or another activity-related field.
- Strong understanding of the principles and practices of conservation enterprise development and sustainable land use.
- Experience assessing community livelihoods, engaging local communities, and establishing multi-stakeholder mechanisms.
- Experience working on commodity sustainability certification schemes includes Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO), Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), and Organic Agriculture.
- Ability to develop and maintain partnerships at the subnational level with communities, smallholder groups, village groups, and similar organizations in various cultural settings throughout Indonesia.
- Proven ability to support subnational jurisdictions and communities to foster mutually beneficial and equitable relationships.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, orally and in writing, including the ability to create reports, toolkits, and guides.
