USAID SEGAR’s biodiversity protection and emissions reduction (BCER) strategy is based on enabling key stakeholders in subnational jurisdictions to understand better and protect terrestrial landscapes containing High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS). Local governments will be able to define areas where economic development –such as sustainable commodity production– is possible, and improve “the enabling environment” in which this occurs. USAID SEGAR will provide targeted support for wildlife protection.
