USAID’s SEGAR Activity seeks to advance Indonesia’s own development goals of balancing
biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use with inclusive economic and livelihoods
development. USAID SEGAR contributes to the 2020 - 2025 USAID Indonesia Country Development Cooperation Strategy, Development Objective 3: Environmental Sustainability Improved, and Intermediate Result 1, Natural Resource Management Improved.
To achieve the overall goal, USAID SEGAR will achieve the following two objectives:
- Strengthened inclusive environmental governance in targeted subnational jurisdictions that advances biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, and sustainable land use.
- Increased implementation of environmental and social sustainability goals within private sector natural resource commodity production supply chains that reduces threats to biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions from land use.
USAID SEGAR works in four provinces and twelve intervention districts:
- Aceh: Aceh Tamiang, and North and East Aceh
- West Kalimantan: Ketapang, Kubu Raya, Sanggau, and Sintang
- East Kalimantan: Berau, East Kutai, and Mahakam Ulu
- Central Kalimantan: Seruyan, and West Kotawaringin
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Communications Officer will support the Activity in all internal and external communications, outreach, and public relations. The Communications Officer works closely with USAID SEGAR staff to draft communications materials and effectively communicate the Activity’s approaches, outputs, and impacts to USAID, the Government of Indonesia, and other audiences. USAID SEGAR communications strategies are designed to show USAID's role in supporting Indonesia's own development goals of balancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use with inclusive economic growth and livelihoods development.
Key Tasks
- Ensure that all project documents and materials, including reports, are compliant with USAID branding and marking (B&M) regulations and USAID SEGAR communications strategies.
- Provide support to USAID SEGAR technical staff to produce a variety of communications products including newsletters, highlights, press releases, presentations, lessons learned documents, and other promotional, educational, and informational materials (in print, photograph and video formats).
- Contribute to the management of USAID SEGAR social media channels and help develop content that is consistent with USAID SEGAR messaging and communications strategies, in alignment with USAID direction.
- Provide quality control, supervision of communication product dissemination, and monitoring of distribution.
- Measure performance/impact of USAID SEGAR outreach and dissemination of communications products.
- Provide communications assistance to partners and counterparts as necessary and appropriate.
- Provide support in managing media relations and high-level events, including the development of event briefers for USAID.
- Supervise one Communications Assistant to ensure effective and efficient execution of communication tasks.
- Perform other duties consistent with activity objectives, the technical skills of the position, and activity requirements as directed by supervisor.
- Travel within subnational jurisdictions as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with five-years of working experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
- Experience in developing project outreach and communication products.
- Experience with document editing and formatting.
- Experience working with mass media, or providers of communications products and services in the Indonesian market.
- Experience working on communications in biodiversity conservation, conservation governance, local governance, commodity supply chain management, certification schemes, or other related areas in the Indonesian context is preferred.
- Fluency in Indonesian, strong working proficiency in English.
- Experience working with USAID and knowledge of USAID communications policies.
